Working from Home: How to Set Up Your Workspace

How to Create a Productive Work Environment in a Small Home Office

🟠 Seperation and Isolation

It’s important that you have one dedicated space for working, and another for relaxations. This space can be setup temporary with a temporary table, or in another room or space. Just make sure you don’t relax in the same spot as well. We make a psychological difference when we create a space for one dedicated activity.

Creating temporary spaces are great as well, since setting up is a clear sign that you are going to start working and closing down is a clear sign that you have completed your work.

Make sure the space you work on is isolated and not full of distractions. Distractions can come from your device itself to someone else entering the room. Make sure to setup blockers for devices and communicating with your family.

You can also setup music on headphones or white noise to help you focus on a task. There is a direct connection to how unwanted noises can distract you from working.

🟠 Habits and Goals

Your habits and goals play a major role in this. Make sure you have clear goals written down. You can use tricks like the Anti-Goals (The things you don’t want to do) to find your goals.

Habits are more important than goals. Make sure to setup time blockers at the same time to train your brain into doing a certain activity consistently.

🟠 Daily List

Make sure to have a realistic daily list. It’s very important to make these achievable since there is noone there to check on you. You can create four categories:

When writing out your daily tasks, choose not more than 3 tasks meaningful tasks that you intended to get done.

🟠 Time Boxing
